According to a study by the Psychonomics market research institute, the German brand „Nivea“ and the internet brand „Google“ were among the most popular brands in Germany in the year 2008. In the course of this study most popular brands were defined in eight important lines of industry. The respective findings were based on about 250.000 interviews. +++

According to the EU Commission, the global crisis will lead to a deep economic recession in Europe in the year 2009. However, the Commission think that thanks to measures taken by several member states in order to enliven the economy the economic situation may well improve in the second half of 2009. The European GDP is predicted to shrink by 1.9% in the year 2009. German GDP is expected to fall by 2.3%. For 2010 the economy is forecast to grow by 0.4% in Europe and by 0.7% in Germany. +++

Output in the construction industry of the Eurozone (EZ15) fell by 1.1% (adjusted for season) in November 2008 as compared to October last year. In the EU27 the decrease amounted to 1.6%. The respective figures for October last year were -0.1% and +0.5%. In comparison with November 2007 output fell by 4.7% in the Eurozone and by 4.2% in the EU27. In the year 2008 the number of overnight stays at camping sites in Germany increased by 5% to 22.9 million as compared to the year 2007. At the end of November 2008 the German processing industry employed about 5.4 million people which is 1.8% more than in November 2007. Businesses in the German hotel industry generated 1.1% and 3.6% less turnover in nominal and real figures respectively in November 2008 than in November 2007. +++

According to the authors of the renowned Deloitte study called “Global Economic Outlook”, Continental Europe and Germany could come out stronger than before of the current economic recession. Apart from this the prospects are said to be rather bleak. According to the authors of the study, Great Britain would not pick up momentum until the year 2011 as well as Japan which would suffer from falling industrial output and consumer confidence as well as deflation in the year 2009. The growth of markets in China and India is also said to decelerate significantly over the months to come. +++
