The annual inflation rate in the EU27 was 4.3% in June 2008. Thus, inflation was still accelerating given that in May the rate was 4.0% and just 2.1% in June 2007. In the Eurozone annual inflation amounted to 4.0% in June this year as compared to 3.7% in May 2008 and 1.9% in June 2007.
Knowledge-intensive businesses need more specialists
In the year 2007 one third of all newly hired employees having vocational training or an university diploma were taken on by research-intensive industrial companies or knowledge-intensive service providers. According to the IAB institute, back in the year 2000 this percentage was just 25%. The other side of the coin was revealed through a representative survey by the IAB among 16.000 businesses: in particular those companies which are part of the knowledge-intensive economy are more and more frequently unable to staff their vacancies.

The importance of the internet as a sales channel is rapidly growing. 24% of German businesses are already selling their products and services over the internet. This is an increase by 33% as compared to last year. According to the German Association for Information Management, Telecommunications and New Media (BITKOM), this not only helps businesses to enter new markets but also to save a lot of costs, e.g. for office space and the manual registration of clients´ data given that online clients enter their personal data themselves.
